Sharon Teen Shot And Killed In Attack In West Bank

A teenager from Sharon, a community south of Boston, was shot and killed in the West Bank on Thursday.

Ezra Schwartz, 18, was among five people who were killed in two separate attacks in the West Bank and Tel Aviv that authorities say were carried out by Palestinians.

Schwartz had graduated from the Maimonides School in Brookline earlier this year, according to a statement from the school.

"The entire Maimonides School community is profoundly saddened," the statement read. "Ezra was spending his gap year studying in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ezra's family, classmates and friends."

Debbie Sussman, the director of Camp Yavneh in Northwood, New Hampshire, where Schwartz was a counselor, was shocked by the news. She said Schwartz had attended the camp since he was a child and she had just received his application for a job this summer.

"He was a counselor for the younger kids, kids loved him," Sussman told WBUR. "[He] had a very sweet personality."

According to The Associated Press, five people died in two separate attacks on Thursday, "one of the deadliest days yet in a two month-long outburst of Israeli-Palestinian violence."

The first attack occurred in an office building in Tel Aviv, when a man with a knife stabbed and killed two Israelis as several of them gathered for afternoon prayers.

Later, a Palestinian driver shot at cars stuck in traffic in the West Bank before ramming his car into a group of pedestrians. That attack killed three people, including Schwartz.
