Forecast: Great, Sunny Weather For Holiday Travelers Today

After all the craziness on the roads Tuesday evening, today will hopefully be a bit better traffic-wise. At the very least, the weather won't impact the roads.

High pressure is directly over us this morning, which is one of the reasons for the bright start to the day. A lack of wind today will keep temperatures on the cooler side, not allowing the milder air aloft to mix to the surface; we’ll have to wait until Thanksgiving for that to happen.

A storm-less eastern United States will provide great travel conditions today, and there should not be issues with airport delays from weather. This afternoon, highs will be typical for the time of year, mostly in the 40s.

On Thanksgiving, we trade the clear skies for clouds and warmer temperatures. We will see some sunshine mixed with clouds and highs will reach the 50s in the afternoon. The weather is great for all those high school football games during the morning and a nice walk in the afternoon.

There is skiing at many ski areas as well on man-made snow. Although we haven’t had any natural snow yet, the colder air has allowed snow guns to crank, especially at night. Call ahead to your favorite area, but Thanksgiving weekend can be a fun time to start the ski season.

Friday is the warmest day of the next several with 60 degrees a distinct possibility across much of the area. Winds will blow from the south and keep things mild until a cold front passes at night.

Over the weekend, temperatures will return to seasonable levels. There will be plenty of sunshine both days. We may see a mild rain event early next week, but the models are still not definitive in the track and strength of a potential storm.
