Are 9-Year-Old Brockton Rapper’s Racy Videos Signs Of Abuse?

The family of Lil Poopy, the 9-year-old Brockton rap sensation, is being investigated for possible child abuse by state child welfare officials at the request of Brockton police, according to the Associated Press. No charges have been filed, but officers apparently became worried after discovering the little MC and his racy videos when reading a Feb. 24 profile in the Brockton Enterprise.

The newspaper reported:

“The Brockton fourth-grader is a rap singer known as Lil Poopy who has already hit the stage with P. Diddy, hung out in nightclubs and been featured in music videos in which he sings about Louis Vuitton swag, driving a Lamborghini and making someone else’s girlfriend his groupie. Adult women drape themselves over Rivera and other prepubescent boys in his videos as the youngsters strike fierce poses, slap female fans’ bottoms and kiss stacks of cash.”

“Coke ain’t a bad word, it’s only soda” and “I’m really a bad boy,” Lil Poopy raps in an official remix of his mentor French Montana’s hit “Pop That” (above). All this, of course, is the naughty joke that has attracted hundreds of thousands of views of his YouTube videos. The family of Lil Poopy—born Luie Rivera Jr.—denies the abuse accusations.

"This is just what I would call a racially-tinged investigation because whoever watched it probably doesn't understand rap," Joseph Krowski Jr., a lawyer for the Puerto Rican-American rapper’s family, said according to the Associated Press. "...This isn't some child left alone that's not going to school. It all comes down to content in the videos, which is protected by the First Amendment."
