See: Werner Herzog’s Harrowing Anti-Texting-While-Driving Documentary
Werner Herzog, the director of the 2005 film “Grizzly Man,” has arrived with another stunning documentary, “From One Second to the Next,” a harrowing recounting of accidents caused by drivers dangerously distracted by texting.
The 35-minute YouTube video (above)—part of an anti-texting-while-driving campaign by AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile—is a mix of confessions and forensic reporting delivered at a slow, inevitable pace. The German filmmaker applies his brilliant ability at finding and pluming meaning from the extreme moments of life to create what in effect is a horror film.
“I looked in the ditch and there was bodies just laying there,” says a man who smashed his van into an Amish buggy while distracted by texting. “The only thing I saw moving was the horse.”
His last text before the crash: “I love you.”
