Amazon says it will add 900 new jobs at an office in Boston that's set to open next spring.

The online retail company said Monday it has signed a lease for a 150,000-square-foot space in a building along Fort Point Channel. Amazon plans to hire employees to work on its Alexa voice-activated technology, logistics and other business lines.

The company has space in the city's Back Bay neighborhood and in Kendall Square in Cambridge.

According to The Boston Globe, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said Amazon will "take advantage of the diversity and experience and talent we have here in Boston. It’s a big win for us."

In a statement to The Boston Herald, a spokesman for Gov. Charlie Baker said the administration "welcomes Amazon’s commitment to investing and growing in the Commonwealth."

The new Amazon office will be near General Electric's new world headquarters, which is under construction.

General Electric announced in March that it purchased about 2.5 acres in South Boston from Procter & Gamble.
