Five years ago this April, tragedy struck at the Boston Marathon. Three people were killed and hundreds more were injured when two homemade bombs went off near the finish line. The attack set off a city-wide manhunt that captured international attention and launched a new phrase, now iconic: #BostonStrong.

Five years on, WBUR’s ideas and opinion page, Cognoscenti, wants to hear from you. Did you run that day? Or were you a spectator? Was your friend or family member among the hundreds of first responders? Did you watch from afar, on TV or via social media? Did you know someone running that year?

We’re interested in your stories from that day, what’s happened since and what it means to you — and all of us.

All submissions, which must be original and exclusive to WBUR, will be considered for publication on our website during the week of the Boston Marathon. Essays will also be considered for broadcast on WBUR’s Morning Edition. Please find our submission guidelines here.

Send your essay in the body of an email -- no attachments please -- to opinion@wbur.org.
