Carey Goldberg Moderates Newton Free Library Author Luncheon

Robin Cook debuted his first medical thriller, Coma, in 1977, and since then, he has written more than 30 others, becoming recognized worldwide as the master of the medical thriller genre. His latest book, Cell, has just been released in 2014. In 2002, he was awarded the “Author of Vision” distinction from the RP International organization, and in 2004, appointed to the Woodrow Wilson Board of Trustees. Wesleyan University honored him with a Distinguished Alumni Award in 1982 and the McConaughy Award in 2012 for his writing. He is currently on leave from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and divides his time between Florida, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
Qais Akbar Omar is the author of A Fort of Nine Towers which chronicles his family’s remarkable survival against unbelievable odds through a brutal civil war and Taliban rule. He shares their long journey through terror, loss, heartbreak and sudden moments of joy. Qais will show photos of the actual fort of nine towers of the title, as well other sites mentioned in the book. Qais currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at Boston University where he also teaches. The manager of his family’s carpet business in Kabul, Qais has lectured on Afghan carpets in Afghanistan, Europe, and the United States.
