Lack Of Bus Drivers Causes Transportation Issues At 12 Boston Public Schools

Not enough bus drivers were available for transporting schoolchildren in Boston on Tuesday, causing confusion for some students and parents.

The Boston Public Schools said in a statement that an "unusually large" number of bus drivers were absent, causing transportation issues at 12 schools.

Most of the affected schools are independent charters that serve Boston students.

"We have taken immediate steps to staff more drivers on impacted routes and have been in contact with school leaders, who notified students’ families. BPS is working closely with [bus vendor] TransDev on a plan for adequate coverage for the remainder of the week," said BPS in a statement.

The Boston Globe reports the bus drivers' contract expires at the end of this week.
