Parents In College Admissions Scandal Told They Cannot Change Judges For Now
Some parents accused of bribing college coaches and test administrators to get their children into college will not be able to change judges — yet.
Tuesday, attorneys for the parents wrote a letter to the chief judge in Massachusetts District, Patti Saris, to remove Judge Nathaniel Gorton from their cases.
In his own letter, U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling accused the attorneys of looking for a more lenient judge.
In a letter to the defense attorneys Wednesday, Saris said the case would remain with Judge Gorton for now. Saris said if they wish to be assigned other judges, they must ask Gorton himself to separate their cases.
