Independent Film Festival Boston 2013
WBUR is this year’s media sponsor of the Independent Film Festival Boston, the Hub’s premier independent film festival being held April 24-30. 99 films, including several world premieres are being screened at area theaters, including new works by directors Joss Whedon, Sarah Polley and Bobcat Goldthwait as well as films starring actors Paul Rudd, Ellen Page and Alison Janney.
For the first time, actor and filmmaker Casey Affleck joins the festival as creative advisor. He’ll be in attendance, as will filmmakers James Ponsoldt, whose film “The Spectacular Now” opens the festival, and Lake Bell, whose “In a World” closes it.
WBUR hosts will also be conducting interviews at two screenings Saturday, April 27. At 2:45 p.m., join CommonHealth host Carey Goldberg at the Somerville Theatre for a discussion with the filmmaker behind “The Genius of Marian,” an intimate family portrait that explores the tragedy of Alzheimer’s Disease. Then at 3:30 p.m. at the Brattle, WBUR and ARTery critic-at-large Ed Siegel moderates a discussion with the filmmaker of “Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia.”
