WBUR’s Sacha Pfeiffer Leads A Talk With Joi Gresham
Join WBUR’s Sacha Pfeiffer as she leads a conversation with Joi Gresham, Director of the Lorraine Hansberry Trust, following the performance of Huntington Theatre Company’s A Raisin in the Sun. Joi Gresham oversees the many works of Lorraine Hansberry and her catalogue of plays in productions all over the world including her most noted work, A Raisin in the Sun.
A Raisin in the Sun tells the story of a struggling African-American family, crowded into an apartment on Chicago’s South Side. Each one yearns for a different version of a better life, and an impending and sizeable insurance payment could be the key. Lorraine Hansberry’s groundbreaking 1959 classic drama is an inspiring and fiercely moving portrait of people whose dreams are constantly deferred. The first play on Broadway to be either written by an African-American woman or directed by an African-American, The New York Times called A Raisin in the Sun, “a play that changed American theatre forever.”
