GOP Party

The Republican Party convention really got going last night, with speeches from President Bush, Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman, and Presidential candidate Fred Thompson. We'll take stock of what they said and look ahead to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's speech scheduled for this evening. Our guest is Linda Feldmann, White House and political correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor.

Sarah Palin

John McCain's vice presidential pick, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, speaks to the GOP Convention tonight. We discuss Palin with syndicated columnist Ellen Goodman and Diana Banister, a Republican consultant and a delegate from the state of Virginia. Former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift will also join us.

Douglas Holtz-Eakin

We speak with McCain senior policy adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin (AKE-inn) about how John McCain would turn around the economy, and how the McCain team is preparing VP nominee Sarah Palin for her big speech tonight.

Democracy Now! Arrests

Producers from the alternative public radio show Democracy Now! were arrested Monday as they covered the anti-war protests on the streets of St. Paul during the Republican National Convention. When host Amy Goodman asked to speak to the police, she was arrested as well. Goodman and her producers have since been released, and we caught up with Goodman not long after her release.

Political Books

Looking for some good political books to read? Here and Now literary critic Steve Almond gives us some of his favorites.

This program aired on September 3, 2008.
