Number Two Taliban Commander Arrested

Mullah Baradar, commander of military operations for the Afghan Taliban, was arrested in a joint CIA and Pakistani operation. He's the senior-most Taliban leader to be taken since the beginning of the Afghan war, and analysts say the arrest may be part of an effort to bring the Taliban into talks. We have the latest news and analysis with Siobhan Gorman, Intelligence Correspondent for The Wall Street Journal.

That work now informs his priorities for the world's largest biomedical research organization. Among them, personalized medicine. Dr. Collins says he's also personally driven by his faith in God.

Living In Boston With No Central Heat- By Choice

Forbes Magazine conducted a 2007 study that ranked the "most expensive places to heat a home," and number one was Boston, where the average household spent more than 1,600 dollars a year on heat. Boston-based design architect Simon Hare of the company Placetailor wants to bring that number closer to zero. He recently built a home that's made to get through a New England winter without central heat. Here & Now's Jill Ryan stopped by on one of the coldest days of the year.

Alabama Shooting Raises Questions In Massachusetts

Last week's deadly shooting at the University of Alabama-Huntsville is raising questions in Massachusetts about what investigators knew about accused shooter Amy Bishop. Bishop, who used to live in Massachusetts, shot and killed her brother, Seth Bishop, in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1986. At the time the state police ruled it an accident but now new doubts are being raised. We speak with Maria Cramer of the Boston Globe.

Violin Prodigy Sam Weiser

We speak to 16-year-old violinist Sam Weiser whose debut CD "Sam I Am" is being released today. Sam is a student at the Manhattan College of Music studying both jazz and classical violin and was the 2008/2009 recipient of the Daniel Pearl Violin, which honors the journalist who was murdered in Pakistan. Sam is dedicating the profits from his CD to the Daniel Pearl Foundation and to the Friends of Daniel Pearl FodFest.
