Boy Scouts Will Appeal Damages In Abuse Lawsuit
The Boy Scouts of America says it will appeal a jury's decision on Friday to award $18.5 million to a former scout in Portland, Oregon who claims he was molested two decades ago by his scout leader. The former scout claimed that his scout leader confessed to molesting children but the Boy Scouts didn't ban him from the organization, despite having a secret "red flag" file on him and other problem scout leaders. Patrick Boyle is the editor of the newspaper Youth Today, and author of "Scout's Honor" about sex abuse in the Boy Scouts. Mike Carroll is a volunteer with the Boy Scouts in west central Florida, where he has led abuse prevention training sessions for scout masters.
