Researcher Seeks To Understand Happiness

The Rolling Stones famously sang "You can't always get what you want, but you just might... get what you need."  And Rabbi Hyman Schachtel, who delivered the prayer at President Johnson's second inauguration in 1965 said "happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have."

But when psychologist Jeff Larsen went to find out the real story behind happiness, he found that it may not be a bad idea to go out and get the things you want — they might make you happier. Larsen teaches at Texas Tech University.
