China's president, Hu Jintao, meets with members of Congress today, many of whom have been speaking out against alleged human rights abuses in the country, and the handling of China's economy.  President Hu heads to Chicago this afternoon.

It's the first trip by a Chinese leader to America in almost four years, and with China now a rising power, some are billing this trip as a meeting of equals. But how far has China really come in matching America's global power and influence? The BBC's Martin Patience reports from Beijing.

This segment aired on January 20, 2011.
