The Egyptian military sends its best and brightest young officers to the U.S. for training at American military schools such as West Point, the Army War College and National Defense University.

At National Defense University, Egyptian-born professor of national security Gawdat Bahgat has taught Egyptian officers about the role of the military and the relationship between the military and civilians. He tells us what they learn and how they reacted to news of the protests in Egypt.
