A century ago Monday an uprising against the Qing Dynasty in China brought an end to 2,000 years of imperial rule.

It's an event that is being marked in Taiwan and in China — but the celebrations are low key because almost 40 years after that revolution, another one took place — bringing the Communist Party to power in China and sending the losers to Taiwan. Michael Bristow reports for the BBC.
