The countries bordering Syria are watching the deepening crisis there with concern. Israel, especially, is worried that Syria's stockpile of chemical weapons might fall into the hands of radical Islamists.

Syrians who live in the Golan Heights, which was seized by Israel in 1967, are also keeping a close eye on the conflict in their home country.

The BBC's Yolande Knell reports.
