Komen CEO And President Stepping Down

There's been a major shake up at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. President Liz Thompson is leaving the group and founder Nancy Brinker is giving up her role as CEO and moving into a fundraising capacity.

The changes come several months after a controversial decision by the Komen Foundation to stop funding breast cancer screenings and preventive care at Planned Parenthood clinics. That decision was reversed within three days, but reverberated through the organization and is thought to be responsible for the drop in funds they've raised this year.

Though Brinker does not cite the Planned Parenthood funding controversy in her decision, many say that the changes are a way for the organization to close the curtain on that event and move forward.
