The FBI in Washington confirms that an agent shot and killed a man in Orlando, Fla. last night who was being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing investigation.

The suspect, according to the FBI, was fatally shot when he initiated a violent confrontation.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Ibragim Todashev. WESH-TV in Orlando has spoken with a friend of Todashev named Khusn Taramiv, who says he and Todashev — both Chechens — had been held for questioning.

Todeshev was detained a few hours longer yesterday, Taramiv said, because he was a mixed martial arts acquaintance of deceased Chechen bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev in Boston.

WESH quotes FBI sources who say Todashev had extremist friends overseas and he "flipped out" during an interview Tuesday night and an agent was forced to shoot him.

NBC News reports that Todashev attacked agent with knife, and that while he wasn't suspected of playing a role in the bombings, he admitted to being involved in a brutal triple murder in the Boston area in 2011.
