Airlines Upgrade Lounges To Attract Top Customers

American Express platinum card owners were in for a shock recently when they learned they'll no longer have free access to the airport lounges of American Airlines and U.S. Airways, which have now merged.

In a statement, American Express said, “We are disappointed to report that American Airlines and US Airways elected not to renew this benefit."

Airlines are spending millions of dollars to upgrade their airport lounges with luxury spas, fancy restaurants, and other first class amenities. But who will get access, and how?
