The New York Times reports that a potentially historic deal is in the works that would for the first time commit every nation in the world to cutting its planet-warming fossil fuel emissions.

The deal is being negotiated at the United Nations-led climate talks in Lima, Peru.

The BBC's environment reporter Matt McGrath is there, and tells Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson that the elements of a deal could come together so an agreement can be signed at the talks in Paris next year.

Note: This BBC interview can be heard in the Here & Now podcast or with the WBUR app.
