Most Alabama Judges Likely To Comply With Gay Marriage Ruling

More probate court judges in Alabama are expected to begin issuing marriages licenses to same-sex couples today, after the federal judge who overturned the state's voter-approved ban on gay marriage last month weighed in on the issue once more.

Federal District Court Judge Callie Granade ruled yesterday afternoon that a probate judge in Mobile, Alabama, cannot refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

Some probate judges in the state had refused to comply with Judge Granade's initial ruling, after Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore last weekend ordered probate judges not to comply with it.

Ronald Krotoszynski, a law professor at the University of Alabama School of Law, tells Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson that he thinks most, if not all probate judges will begin issuing licenses so same-sex couples can get married in Alabama.
