House Speaker John Boehner survived another confrontation with conservative Republicans yesterday, pushing through a bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security for a full year. There were 167 House Republicans who voted against that legislation - on the opposite side of Speaker Boehner, and there are more ideological fights on the horizon.

Boehner is not the first GOP House speaker to face this kind of opposition. Republicans have a history of rebellion against their speaker; Democrats not so much. Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson digs into this history with Joshua Spivak, a senior fellow at the Hugh Carey Institute for Government Reform at Wagner College.
