Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is one of the more than two dozen governors who are suspending efforts to resettle Syrian refugees in the U.S. Governor Snyder says he wants the federal government to fully review its security procedures.

Reem Akkad, a Syrian American who volunteers with the Syrian American Rescue Network in the metro Detroit area, says the decision is unfortunate. And while Syrian refugee advocates understand security concerns, she says the vetting process in the U.S. is extensive.
