Two Democrats named Misty have made history as the first openly transgender major party candidates for Congress.

Misty Plowright is running in Colorado to replace Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn in the House. And in Utah, political newcomer Misty Snow is running against Republican Sen. Mike Lee.

Snow faces an uphill road to unseat Lee, but is hoping to drive up turnout among millennials through her progressive campaign.

Julia Ritchey (@juliaritchey), of Here & Now contributor KUER, reports from Utah.

This segment aired on November 3, 2016.
