Residents in the Great Lakes region know all too well about "lake effect" snow — when cold, dry air passes over the warmer lakes, it generates heavy winter storms.

Lake effect snow can be destructive. It causes traffic accidents, downed trees and power outages. But some businesses are embracing the “lake effect” name, as Angelica Morrison (@amorrisonWBFO) of Here & Now contributor Great Lakes Today reports.

Great Lakes Today is a collaboration of WBFO in Buffalo, New York, WCPN Ideastream in Cleveland and WXXI in Rochester, New York.
