With an emphasis on standardized testing, many schools across the country are debating how much time, if any, should be allotted for recess. Researchers say free play is important for the growth of a child’s brain.

In Tennessee, lawmakers have set rules on what counts as recess and how long it should be. But as Chas Sisk (@chassisk) of Here & Now contributor Nashville Public Radio reports, they are now considering changing the law.
