In an interview Tuesday night with Fox's Sean Hannity, Donald Trump Jr. said the reaction to news that he took a secret meeting during the campaign with someone who was described to him by a friend as an intermediary of the Russian government was "a little bit ridiculous and overplayed."

"I think the media has really done themselves a disservice by picking sides so flagrantly," said the president's son.

“My son Donald did a good job last night,” President Trump tweeted today. “He was open, transparent and innocent. This is the greatest Witch Hunt in political history. Sad!”

On Monday the New York Times reported on emails that appeared to show Trump Jr. was eager to meet with someone who promised him damaging information about Hillary Clinton. “If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Trump Jr. replied to the email written by a friend of Trump's who described the information as "part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump."
