House Republicans met behind closed doors Thursday morning but were not able to reach an agreement on immigration legislation. NPR congressional correspondent Scott Detrow joins us with the latest. Also, Hernan Diaz's debut novel "In the Distance" was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. The book tells the story of Håkan, an immigrant from Sweden who makes his way through the American West in the early to mid 1800s. And in an effort to get more people to live in the state, Vermont recently passed legislation for a program that would offer people up to $10,000 to move there and work remotely.
