Cable and streaming services are debuting new drama shows for the summer season. AMC's "Dietland" and Paramount Network's "American Woman" both feature the stories of oppressed women, while Freeform's "Cloak & Dagger" introduces new superheroes to Marvel's screen empire.

But as NPR TV critic Eric Deggans (@Deggans) tells Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson, these shows may struggle to stand out.

This segment aired on June 8, 2018.
