An Education Department report found there were 235 school-related shootings in the 2015-2016 school year. But an investigation by NPR could only verify a fraction of those — and some of the school districts surveyed have petitioned the federal government to change their numbers.

Here & Now's Robin Young discusses how the report may have gone wrong, and what it means for research into gun violence, with NPR's Anya Kamenetz (@anya1anya).

This segment aired on August 28, 2018.
