With more than 7,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, California trails behind only New York and New Jersey with the most number of cases in the country.

Although early preventative efforts are expected to help flatten the state's curve, California's lack and delay in testing as well as it's overcrowded prison system will contribute to even higher numbers. In an effort to address some of these issues, San Francisco reduced its jail population by 25% this past month.

Here & Now's Robin Young checks in with Susie Neilson (@susieneilson) of member station KQED in the San Francisco Bay Area for the latest.

This segment aired on March 31, 2020.
