California voters may get a chance to reconsider the state's ban on affirmative action in public education and employment. A bill that would put the question back on the ballot passed the State Assembly this week, and the University of California system has thrown its weight behind restoring affirmative action.

Assemblymember Shirley Weber, who introduced the bill, says "race neutral" solutions have failed to result in race equitable outcomes.

We check in with Ben Christopher, reporter with CalMatters, about what the change would mean and who supports it.

This segment aired on June 19, 2020.
