The city council in Asheville, North Carolina, unanimously approved a measure for reparations for Black residents. The funding would be put toward programs that increase career opportunities and homeownership. It would not be direct payments. We speak with Councilwoman Sheneika Smith, who supported the measure. Also, Christopher Dickey, a legendary foreign correspondent, died unexpectedly Thursday. We revisit an old but timeless conversation with him. That and more, in hour one of Here & Now's July 17, 2020, full broadcast. This program aired on July 17, 2020.
