Pollsters were surprised when longtime Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine handily beat her opponent, Democrat Sara Gideon. Collins had received criticism for supporting Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court and voting to acquit President Trump during his impeachment trial.

But, despite Gideon's well-funded campaign, Collins ultimately convinced Mainers that she's a centrist who would continue to fight for them.

Steve Mistler of Maine Public Radio reports.

This segment aired on November 11, 2020.
