Pitch Black Afro Raps for South Africa

Once the underground sound of New York City, hip hop has become the pop music of the world. Fans from Germany to Japan are listening to the likes of Nelly and 50 Cent, as well as their own home-grown artists who rap in the local vernacular.

In South Africa, for instance, the big hip hop name is "Pitch Black Afro", a man with an enormous presence and a hairdo to match. WBUR's Sean Cole recently met up with him in a nightclub in Johannesburg.

This program aired on July 18, 2005. The audio for this program is not available.
