Red Cross Volunteers

Relief workers from Massachusetts are being trained for emergency relief in southern states ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Volunteers who are assigned to help will not only be providing aid to the hurricane victims but also live like them. They may even have to sleep in shelters.

Around 120 volunteers from the region have already joined thousands of other aid workers in handing out food and wading through flooded streets to aid the survivors.

WBUR's Audie Cornish has the story.

This program aired on September 2, 2005. The audio for this program is not available.
