For Local Man, Tsunami Disaster Hit Home

It has been nearly a year since the devastating tsunami that struck Southeast Asia. More than 273,000 people were killed in the disaster and many more homes, towns and livelihoods were destroyed in almost a single moment on December 26, 2004.

Though many countries and individuals have pledged billions of dollars in aid, recovery has been slow in coming. In the island nation of Sri Lanka, more than 30,000 people died that day.

Chevy Vithiananthan, a software engineer living in Winchester, MA, and a native of Sri Lanka, has spent the last year doing relief work there and collecting donations to help the people of that country rebuild their lives.
