Renewed violence in Darfur region of Sudan is stepping up United Nations efforts to provide support for African Union peacekeepers there.

This, after Sudan's envoy to United Nations last week rejected terms for a hand over of peacekeeping operations to U.N. troops.

Linda Mason, a Boston-area board member of the aid group Mercy Corps returned last week from a trip to Darfur, where she got a first-hand look at the situation.
