Owning Up to Medical Errors

The 13 Harvard University-affiliated hospitals in Massachusetts will today release a statement of principle on how they will respond when a patient is the victim of a medical error or adverse event.

The document calls for full disclosure when things go wrong, including an up-front apology to the patient.

Allan Coukell tells the story of a patient, her doctor and a medical error that unites them.

This program aired on March 8, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
