Ashland Cancer Cluster

Massachusetts health officials have announced that a cluster of cancer cases in the town of Ashland appears to be linked to a former industrial dye-making plant.

The Nyanza dye factory dumped toxic waste in lagoons in the town during the 1960s and 1970s.

The findings put to rest decades of speculation over the cause of the cancers in the town.

WBUR's health and science reporter Allan Coukell will report on this story on Morning Edition, Wednesday.

This program aired on April 26, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
