Menino on Violence

For the Mendes family, the homicide statistics have hit too close to home. Alex, who's also known as "Matt," was killed this weekend, just minutes from his house on Groom Street in Dorchester. That is near the intersection where his brother Bobby was murdered eleven years ago. Since then, their mother Isaura Mendes has worked as a neighborhood activist. She's an organizer of the 10th Annual Mothers' Day Peace Walk, which takes place this Sunday.
