Father of the Dig

Tip O'Neill jump-started the Big Dig and now its main tunnel is named in his honor. The late speaker of the U.S. House is credited with lobbying to secure federal funding for the Central Artery project in the 1980s. Today, a large green sign bearing his name adorns the Big Dig's centerpiece, the I-93 tunnel.

For a look at the Big Dig's role in Tip O'Neill's legacy, we are joined by John Aloysius Farrell. He wrote the definitive biography of the speaker, "Tip O'Neill and the Democratic Century."

This program aired on June 6, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
