City Councilor on Youth Violence

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino wants to add 140 new officers to the city police force in the next year, double what he had originally suggested.

Menino says the increase is needed to help stanch rising violence even if it means sacrificing spending on other city services.

The word comes the same day a Boston City Council panel is out with a report on youth crime.

Councilor Michael Ross is the chairman of the Committee on Youth Violent Crime Prevention. He joins us now to discuss the report.

This program aired on June 13, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
