Concerns Over New State Stem Cell Rules

Harvard University and many Boston research hospitals object to rules adopted by the Romney administration that they say could expose scientists to criminal charges for stem cell research.

They say the State Public Health Council rules are stricter than state lawmakers intended, when lawmakers passed a bill to encourage stem cell research last year.

State Representative Peter Koutoujian says the rules could ultimately have a chilling effect on the state's economy.

The Public Health Council says it closely followed the intent of the law.
