Governor Romney Defends Stem Cell Rule

The debate over stem cell research in Massachusetts is continuing today with Governor Mitt Romney defending his public health council's new regulations on the research.

Lawmakers plan to call a hearing next month to review the new regulations, and accusations from some scientists that they could be subject to criminal penalties for future research activities.

But Governor Romney says the regulations should be a guide to scientists.

The regulations were devised after the legislature overrode a gubernatorial veto in order to approve a stem cell research law.
