Healey Ad Misleads, Dems Say

Several Democrats are upset over an ad by Republican gubernatorial candidate Kerry Healey in which they're heard praising her work on a sex crimes law.

They claim the TV spot implies their endorsement of her campaign despite their backing of Deval Patrick, the Democratic nominee.

Senator Steve Baddour (D-Methuen) and Representatives Eugene O'Flaherty (D-Chelsea) and Peter Koutoujian (D-Waltham) say their praise is only directed at Healey's work on the bill, not her political credentials. The law increased the statute of limitations for reporting sex crimes.

A Healey campaign spokesman says the comments were taken from a public event.

Healey trails Patrick by about 25 points in the latest poll. We speak with University of New Hampshire pollster Andrew Smith about the results of the poll.
