Celebrating an Overlooked Pioneer

On Sunday, Christmas Eve, radio enthusiasts will celebrate the centenary of a seminal event in the history of broadcasting: the first-ever voice transmission. It happened in Massachusetts...on December 24th, 1906...in a section of Marshfield known as Brant Rock. And it will happen again this Sunday on the same spot as a local station reenacts that first broadcast.

The event caps a year in which the town has been trying to give a radio pioneer some long-overdue recognition...as WBUR's Matt Largey reports.

This program aired on December 22, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
